V-10 Supercar Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 4 Superleggera

Latest in the line of revised models from Lamborghini, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 4 Superleggera, is that quick it competes with the bigger Murcielago, hitting 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, and having a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h)

Externally, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570 4 Superleggera is almost the same as the other models, except for a revised front end to improve down force detail changes only an improved rear diffuser, and the option of rear wing spoiler.

Power now 570 bhp, weight reduced

The changes that matter are almost invisible: there are now a number of body panels in carbon fiber, to reduce weight, and the 5.2 liter engine now develops 570 bhp (419 kW) at 8,000 rpm. This is the latest direct injection engine, based on Audi's induction/combustion system, and it produces 398 lb ft (540 Nm) torque at 6,500 rpm, making this a truly sporty engine. Like the other Lamborghini engines, this one will trundle through the city all right, but if you want to make it go, you need to use plenty of revs.

Lamborghini's V-10 is a superb engine, with a dramatic engine note owing to the two-plane crank, 90-degree angle between banks, and most important, the resulting uneven firing intervals of 54 degrees, 90 degrees, 54 degrees, and so on.

Four-wheel drive

The engine is coupled to the e-gear six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle controls, and then drive is taken to all four wheels through a center differential with viscous coupling. As on other models, this is designed to give a bias to the rear, with only 30% of torque going to the front wheels in normal circumstances. Of course, in the event of slippage, this ratio changes.

As mentioned, weight reduction has been achieved with the aid of a number of carbon fiber panels, including the rear body panel above the engine, the sills, diffuser, some under body panels, and some interior panels.

Forged aluminum wheels and P Zero Corsa tires

Also making a contribution to weight reduction are the forged 19-inch wheels, which carry Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, 235/35 ZR19 at the front, and 295/35 ZR19 at the rear. Eight-pot front calipers, and 4 pot rear calipers are used, and there is the option of carbon-ceramic brake discs with six-pot calipers at the front.

Lamborghini quotes a dry weight of 2,954 lb (1,340 kg), whereas they used to quote a kerb (curb) weight like everyone else except Ferrari, which is no doubt why they now quote a dry weight! Anyway, that compares very favorably with the Ferrari 458 Italia at 3,170 lb (1,440 kg), despite the Ferrari being rear-drive only.
